Non-12-Step Recovery in Austin

Some people walk out of those rooms and never go back. Not because they were not struggling, but because they were asked to say they were powerless and did not believe it, or to accept a higher power they do not have, or to introduce themselves by the worst thing about their life for the rest of it.
If that was you, you have probably been told the problem was your willingness. It was not. Sangha Recovery is a Dharma-based recovery community in Austin for people who want a path that was not handed to them.
What is different here
You are not powerless, and nobody will ask you to say that you are. Your best thinking is still ahead of you, not behind you. You do not introduce yourself as a diagnosis, you give your name, and we talk. There is no program, which means there is nothing to fail and no way to fall behind. And coming back after time away is simply coming back.
Dharma, not doctrine
This is Dharma as a whole way of living rather than a set of steps to complete. It holds that suffering is part of a real life rather than a punishment for one, and that facing it directly is how a person becomes who they actually are. There is no belief required to sit in the room, and nobody will hand you a framework you did not ask for.
Accountability without shame
The fair objection to any non-12-step approach is that it sounds like permission. It is not, and the reason is small-group structure rather than philosophy: in a room of a few people who show up regularly, everyone knows when someone is missing. Being noticed is a stronger form of accountability than being counted, and it does not require anyone to describe themselves as broken to get it.
What we actually do
Recovery circles, in small groups. Retreats. Gatherings that exist for reasons other than crisis. Steady practice and meditation. Support for mental health, grief, and inner change, walking alongside professional care rather than replacing it.
It is free, and it always will be
Nobody makes money here. Sangha Recovery is one of the SymbioHaven ventures built purely to give, and the ventures that earn are what carry it. There is no membership, no fee, and no plan.
Where it comes from
This grew out of Dharma Dorks, the first in-person Recovery Dharma meeting in Austin, started roughly three years ago and since handed on. Sangha Recovery is its own form of that practice, rooted in Recovery Dharma and grown into its own thing. We speak only for ourselves.
How to start
A circle is two people being honest and somewhere to sit. It does not wait on a building or a schedule. Tell us you're in and we'll put you in the next one. If you would rather bring this to a group or an event you're part of, that works too.
CTA: Bring nothing. Promise nothing. Your name is all it asks.
Use the contact form, or call (512) 808-0153.
Scope & safety line: Sangha Recovery is peer community and shared practice. For clinical treatment we'll gladly point you toward people who do that work, and if you're in crisis or immediate danger, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). We'll still be here afterward.
